Title: Help me understand
Post by: jemsurvey on April 21, 2013, 04:14:21 pm
Hello all,

I've been working through Jeff's book, The Digital Negative, with mostly good results.  However in the Photoshop chapter page 214 where he adds a saturation blend layer, I can't seem to get it right.  When I add a new layer set to blend mode saturation and try painting on the layer all I get is a loss of saturation whether or not my foreground / background color is white or black.  I know its me so any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
John

OK...think I figured it out....I needed to choose a saturated color to begin with.....Thanks

Yep...any fully saturated color (doesn't matter what hue it is) will add saturation...and desaturated color will reduce saturation. Which is the cool thing about this approach–which I learned from JP Caponigro.
