Title: Epson Cold Press Bright and Natural alternative
Post by: designpartners on April 14, 2013, 03:25:57 pm
Hi All,

I've picked up a few sample packs of Epson Signature Worthy papers and really liked the cold press bright and natural papers - but I'm finding them pretty hard to get in Ireland (not impossible just hard).

I'm looking for an alternative, ideally Hahnemuhle, Canson or Permajet (although I've never used any Permajet - any thoughts?) - I have good suppliers for all three. I'm going to get some sample packs also but just looking for any advice.

Thanks

James

I would buy sample packs from Hahnemühle and Canson. I’m at home so I can’t compare the Epson papers with others, and can’t remember how textured the Epson cold pressed papers are.

Canson Montval might be worth a look. Hahnemühle German Etching has a unique texture that holds detail well, but isn’t cotton based. Hahnemühle Museum Etching (although heavier weight), Canson Edition Etching, Arches Velin Museum Rag, and BFK Rives (a traditional fine art printing paper), are all worth looking at.

+1 for new Ilford Gold Cotton Smooth & Textured as a good alternative to Epson Hot Press and Cold Press Natural.

The bright versions are quite unique as they keep their bright white longer than other bright papers tested. The Natural version alternatives  can be found in Canson, Sihl, Papergraphic, Ilford qualities if not more.
