OK. This is turning into a fantastic exhibit. What about a series on interior shots? Very appealing, Russ.

This has a little of the character of a Cornell box, and I quite like it. It's more about the stuff in the still life than about the image itself, though. Um, if that makes any sense.

Thanks all. Andrew's right, this isn't much about the photography; it's about what I used to call my wife's "outhouse cabinet." I remember a cabinet just about like this on the wall of the outhouse behind our cottage in northern Michigan, when I was a kid. (Rob has a point.) But it didn't have pictures and bottles in it or on it.

It's a bit difficult to get to the cabinet with lights since it's tucked into a corner with a long table in front of it. I tried various combinations and ended up with a single SB700 in a small softbox, high and camera right as the best solution, at least for now, while I'm relearning this stuff. The table itself is another of my girl's still lifes. I'll shoot it as soon as I can figure out how to duck the reflections from the print on the wall. (The available light snapshot gives you a rough idea of the problem.)

Cross-polarization!

Circular polarizer on the lens, and a sheet of polarizing material on the flash. I've never actually DONE it, but I am informed that it is the cat's meow for killing reflections dead.

I really like your wife's idea with the cabinet. A very nice idea which I have just shown my wife...

I presume that is not a self-portrait on the lower left=hand door??!!  ;D
