Title: Waning Moon
Post by: Chris Calohan on March 29, 2013, 12:44:30 am
I always think at some point in my life I'll quit shooting the moon, but I guess there's some magical mezmerizing element to that cratered and scarred orb that will always attract me.

Thanks, I wanted to shoot just the half last night but the clouds rolled on in again...more rain on the way. Back to building the ark.

Tripod? Crop factor? Just curious. You'll get some lovely clear skies out here in the dessert.

It holds its own with an even tighter crop.

So about 500 mm 35 mm equivalent. I will have to experiment!

The 200 x 1.7 is about 330, 35mm and this was a tad under the 200 mark.

Very nice! Have you tried stacking multiple identical exposures with an astro-stack program such as Deep Sky Stacker? That method can even out any fuzzies caused by air turbulence. It is not necessary in wide-field shots such as yours (unless there is obvious twinkle-twinkle-little-star air turbulence aka "poor seeing"), but is essential in higher magnification shots.

I like shootingthe moon (and got myself in a bit of trouble as a wee lad doing just that), but I'm not interested in anything more than what I posted here..for those who do, I love every one of you as you provide me with great eye candy.
