Title: Fall Aspens composition
Post by: jhemp on March 28, 2013, 12:01:08 pm
I'm putting together a portfolio of 24x36in prints and I can only include one of these images and I'm going back and forth between these two.  Image 9699  is wonderfully sharp printed at 24x36 but I like the composition on image 9686 a bit better but when printed at 24x36 you really start to see the lack in depth of field.  Even at f22 I could not attain full focus.  Whats your opinion on a slightly soft background???

I like both of these, but I kind of wish the pines on the right side of #2 were aspens instead.

I think the "pines" kind of kill the title. I would have to choose the first one solely for that reason.

#2. I'd go for composition over technical stuff. Don't worry about the spruce, life is messy.

I vote for #1. I like how the aspens look like the photographer's audience, in a circle.

I'm for #2 as well, for the same reasons.

I like number two - the composition is better to my eye. There is a nice panoramic image in composition number two. I see everything as a panoramic so it may not be your thing.

I prefer the first. I find the trees directly in front of the lens in #2 a bit overpowering.

Number one is easily superior, in my eyes.

The second shot will likely only be favored by those of questionable moral character and felons ;-)

I prefer the first one for compositional reasons. IMHO I like seeing the base of the trees in the foreground trees as the second reminds me of people shots where everyone is cut off at the ankles. Just my 2 cents, spend as ya like :)

I like #1 the best, I would have cropped the bottom up to the point that the small green tree was gone, but I like images of trees that dont show the bottoms. Both are nice
