Title: Selling on ebay
Post by: Mike Sellers on March 24, 2013, 08:16:31 pm
I have a spyder monitor and printer profiler on ebay and someone from the Czech Republic wants to bid. Can anyone tell me if it is safe to sell to this country? Does Paypal work in this country?

I'd pass.

International selling requires some experience.  For example, you cannot insure items sent to some countries, and sometimes there is no tracking, so you cannot prove they received the item if they claim it didn't arrive.

If you read the paypal rules and follow them to the letter, you are covered.  Usually, this means using express mail.

Ha. Czech republic is unknown over there wherever you are?

You can ship anywhere in the world with tracking and insurance and so on. It gets expensive, and it might be slow but it is possible and safe. DHL is but one option.

As a seller though you might be a victim of paypal/ebay's wicked policies which are inscrutable. Ask for payment by bank transfer and don't ship until funds clear. That way, whatever happens, paypal/ebay can't take the money back and leave you without money and items sold.

And don't forget VAT/IVA tax, which is sometimes added even to used items if you want to move stuff from Spain to a non-European Union country, for example. It can rocket prices.
