Hmmm. I don't think thia technique will make its way into child portraiture any time soon, but, of course, some parents may be tempted...

It is call Kirlian photography. It is very dangerous, but it is neat. It is really interesting to see the Kirlian method mixed with white light.

It's nice to see someone reviving Kirlian photography to do creative work with it. It remember it being something of a fad back in the 80s. It was being promoted by new age hucksters as a means to photograph your spiritual "aura". This is a more interesting use for it.
