A friend of mine's 3880 is not being recognized by her iMac running OS 10.8. All she has found online is "update the driver" (duh) -- which she has done. Can anyone point me to anything that would help her troubleshoot the issue on a deeper level? (I am a PC guy myself). The printer has been working fine on her PC, so we can assume it's not a printer-end or cabling problem - connection is via USB.
Thanks

I assume she did do the update?

It worked perfectly for me when I updated to Mountain Lion

Is she connecting over a network or usb?

Not that OS, runs fine on this end. Make sure they are running the latest driver and it's from Epson's site. Looks to be 8.6.4. Running fine here on Ethernet but USB always seems to work too.

Make sure that if the connection is via ethernet, that the 'IP address' is statically assigned or 'reserved' via DHCP if the router supports reservations.

Sorry, connection is via USB, she has downloaded the latest driver. (I have edited my original post.)

So, if the connection is via USB then you should make sure that the printer is seen by here Mac
1. Apple > About this Mac then click on "More Info…" button
2. Click on the System Report" button
3. On the sidebar, click on USB. This should list (on the right panel) all the USB devices connected to her Mac.
Note that the printer must obviously be turned ON for this to work.
If the printer is not listed, there's probably a problem with either the USB connectors (Mac or/and printer side) or the cable.

Has she tried screaming obsenities at her screen while flailing wildly.
I can tell that it doesn't work very well, even with a Mac.
I did find that if I rebooted the computer it would find my printer.
As a matter of fact, this was only yesterday.

This is the always the first thing to do when debugging a technical problem.
Second, smack the side of the printer repeatedly.
;D ::)
