Title: October grass
Post by: sdwilsonsct on March 06, 2013, 10:30:41 am
In my fifth month of snow I look back on autumn with longing.

Thanks for looking.

Fantastic, Scott!

I saw it first this morning on my iPad, where it fills the screen and allows for a more "intimate" view of the scene. Seeing in on my iMac, where it occupies only 1/4 of the screen, does not do it justice though.

Love the color contrast, blue/orange, warm/cool; the contrast between movement in the foreground and stability in the background;

Nitpick: my eyes are immediately drawn to the green patch in the center, at the very bottom. I suggest cloning it out or toning it down.

I really like what you've done with this Scott.  I agree that it would be good to push down the bright patch a bit.

Simple, effective and lovely +1 to everything said above.

If I were you, I think I would be revisiting this spot in Autumn many times over and losing myself for hours of enjoyment working this scene.

This is one of those shots that shows imagination and the ability to pre-visualise the final image. Where if someone happens to pass by when you are setup and ready to take the shot (the general public and even other photographers), they will often stop you and ask out of curiosity "What exactly are you photographing?", because they cannot see the shot. Yet if you show them the image on the back of the camera, they will say 'ah' and how beautiful it is, even though it is there right in front of them, they are unable to see it.

Excellent!

Dave

Thanks for all the feedback. Glad you liked it. I'll look at that bright patch.

Yes, Dave, I go back often. A few shots are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59795859@N00/sets/72157632787212576/detail/

One of these moments occurred for me when I was young and poor, restricted to one 50 mm lens on my Nikon FE. Good training, I hear!

I was out with someone working on a book for National Geographic. I had tried to shoot a shoreline but was unsatisfied and gave up. He courteously asked if I minded if he tried the same shot. When I looked through his viewfinder -- wow!! -- what a great composition. The big secret was simply a 24 mm lens.

After two decades with one 50 mm lens, and another with only a 35 mm, I am now in zoom-heaven when it comes to visualizing possibilities.

I really like how there seems to be almost a gradient from real to abstract from top to bottom. Beautiful idea.

I really like your Aspen shot, very Ansel Adams - which is a good thing IMO  :)

Thanks, Arėjukas.

Thanks, Dave. That shot (http://www.flickr.com/photos/59795859@N00/7176599695/in/set-72157632787212576/lightbox/) has given me some trouble, I can't tell if it's any good. I appreciate the feedback.

One of the most beautiful images to be shown here in the last little while in that it is imaginative - not a straightforward image but one that shows more than meets the eye. Well done!

Thanks, Terry! The "more" is a bit accidental. I was really just after a dark background to contrast with the grasses.
