Title: "How to" question about my Epson 9600
Post by: huguito on February 27, 2013, 08:04:43 pm
I just left my 9600 sitting without printing for a month.
I have to imagine something would have clogged by now. Hope not but I will know after a nozzle test tonight.
Just in case one or few of the channels is clogged; Is there a way to just clean up the clogged channel by itself or in a pair?
What's the series of commands to make the printer just clean one nozzle?

Where can I get supplies like the wiper assembly for this printer? I just got it used few weeks ago and would like to do as much as I can of preventive maintenance.

Is there anything else that should be replace, clean or repair as part of preventive maintenance?

Thanks a lot, is my first wide format printer and I am walking blind into it

Don't think it can be done with the 9600.  It's just the way the printer is built, and it predates when Epson switch to "channels" with 2 inks paired up.

Wayne is correct, no single or pairs cleanings with the 9600.  My best advice would be to remove the right end cover and leave if off.  That way you can keep an eye on the wiper blade and pump/cap station and clean them when necessary.  For many years I have run two 7600 printers, down to one now along with the 9900.  I still use the 7600MK for specific jobs and it still produces some fine prints.  I usually remove the pump/cap station every 6 months and give it a thorough cleaning.  The wiper blade is of course part of that assembly and can be cleaned at the same time.  You can also clean the blade while on the machine, but it's much easier and more effective if removed.  Not a difficult task at all, check the service manual.  I have a couple of new blades but don't remember where I bought them.  I'll try to find that information and pass it along if possible.

Good luck with your 9600.  Treat it right and it will treat you right.

Thanks Wayne, Thanks Gary.
Well the good news is that after a month under a bed sheet the nozzle test come out flawless.
I copy one of those color wheels and made a small print just to use all nozzles and keep all inks flowing, also printed fine.

Any recommendations about a supplier that carry items like the wiper blade?

I got this printer used a couple of months ago, along with a ton of new inks, paper rolls and canvas. But doubt that the prior owner did any maintenance. I would like to replace the service items before they fail.

Thanks again
