Title: Local landscapes
Post by: juliandecourcy on February 25, 2013, 07:32:28 pm
Hi I wish to introduce myself. I am located in Cornwall, the far south west of the uk. Landscape photography for me is a new interest. Not new to photography as as such, as a teenager had the darkroom and a simple camera with one lens. Not having a camera for many years whilst studying sculpture, painting and ceramics , I came back into photography with digital age. Acquiring the  canon 30D then a 5DMk2 using the cameras to record some of the ceramic pots I had made. Photography then became a must and today I try and produce images most days, or at least sit and develop images taken previously. Self taught , I do not have any photographic books or videos or the like, but from the early days of film did know how to use a camera and how it functions. My image compositions are mostly derived from my knowledge of years of painting and drawing alongside the ceramics. I endeavor to enjoy the process and being out and about, the results can often be the second consideration.

A little about the images. I have used a m4/3 camera and two stitched frames for the first image. The second image is a single frame The location in from a beach, where at about 3-4pm in the winter the clouds are back lit form the sun, the sea reflects a lot of light up back to the cloud. At the moment one of my favorite places to get these silhouette, or half silhouette horizons with the big sky.

My first post here so a bit nervous.

Welcome Julie!
#1 is good.
#2 is fantastic with just enough detail and tonal variation to push it towards portfolio grade.

Look forward to seeing more.

Welcome to LuLa!  And congratulations on your impressive calling cards, which I see is only a small sample of your excellent flikr postings.

And Tony, it's Julian, not Julie.  Best to get those kinds of things sorted out straight away.  :)

Welcome indeed. I'm not keen on the first, although the crepuscular rays are interesting, but the second is an excellent shot, with a good sky and a lovely play of light on the ground.

An invite to all the other members is to go have a gander at her Flickr pages. Julian has a wonderful feel for light, especially in more abstract presentations of sky as well as in those images shotpurely for their abstract nature. It was a delightful journey.
