Title: Lightroom image catalogue back-up
Post by: petermarrek on February 24, 2013, 11:44:08 am: Just recently I made a copy of my 2gig external HD that holds all of my images for my Lightroom catalogue on a new 2gig drive, I named the same name plus -bk , and I store it away from the computer. Is this a good stategy for the future? Peter

For a library under 5GB, I'd recommend signing up for a free Box account, as the file transfers are very fast and it's better to have backups in the cloud.

Hey Peter!

I saw you mentioned 2gig and I thought you mean't 2GB. I have a 2TB drive with my core image assets (5-star images) in a Wells Fargo safety deposit box for around $35 a year.

As many backups as you have on site - I have both internal and external hard drive backups - one needs at least one offsite archive (some opt for two in case the index archive drive dies).

This is the best way to handle backups, local and off-site. I have three backups in my office and two on two different places. Hard drives are cheap, don't take risks!

Just to be clear, when I meant off-site, it wasn't cloud storage. I take the hard drives in my office, perform backups and then store them elsewhere.
