Title: Morocco
Post by: Jeremy Roussak on February 23, 2013, 01:02:54 pm
I hope to spend a few days in Morocco over Easter, probably in Marrakech and up in the Atlas mountains. Any suggestions for interesting landscapes or good guidebooks, or just general tips would be welcome.

Morocco is a very photogenic place but the touts can drive you crazy (http://www.digidrift.com/morocco-never-say-never-touts-hawkers-return/) particularly if you have a camera.

My advice would be to do a google search for touts + Morocco and then work out a strategy as to how you  are going to deal with them.

Michael managed to get some good shots (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/locations/m8-marrakech.shtml) there so it is possible.

Cheers,

Hi Jeremy,

When we were planning to do Morocco a few years ago, my wife had considerable contact with a Moroccan tour outfit called Desert Majesty (http://www.desertmajesty.com/ (http://www.desertmajesty.com/)). They seemed like very interesting and knowledgable people and we will probably use them if we ever get our act together.

I hope you have a great trip, with lots of photos.

Eric

X2 on the touts.  Unless you're very thick-skinned, they'll drive you crazy.

Fes is more fun than Marrakech, IMHO.  If you have a rental car, the Tizni n Test pass will amaze you.  As will most of the roads through the Atlas Mountains.  Not for the faint of heart, though.

Geographically, Morocco surprised me.  It's very diverse and quite spectacular.

Hi,
Although i'm replying late to this post, i think it might still be useful for others. Marrakech, Fez, Essaouira, Chaouen and the Sahara desert are the best placees to visit for a professional photographer. I was there a couple months ago, and it was amazing, took some great shots. the best way to get rid of touts is by hiring a licensed guide in major cities and a professional English speaking driver in the Sahara desert. We used the services of a " Marrakech Desert Trips" and they were excelent by keeping all their promises! Our driver Hassan was friendly enough to to go off the beaten track so often and show us great stuff we wouldn't discover on our own or with an ordinary tour company: www.marrakech-desert-trips.com (http://www.-marrakech-desert-trips.com)
