Title: Super Angulon 47mm MC performance on digital?
Post by: torger on February 18, 2013, 04:20:44 am
Has anyone tested the old Schneider Super-Angulon 47mm MC (not the current XL) with a digital back or scanning back? I have a friend who's thinking about getting one for his 9 um pixel (22 megapixel) back, these can be had real cheap on the second hand market. Analog wides usually means a huge deal of chromatic aberration, so I'm wondering how bad it would be with this lens.

I have a 47mm Apo-Digitar myself, and I'm guessing that the Digitar is a evolution of the MC, not sure how much was changed though. My Digitar does have some slight chromatic aberration issues, it's not as "digital" as the newer 43mm Super-Digitar. This together with the large image circle makes me think that the 47mm digitar is quite "analog" and maybe the Super-Angulon MC is not so much worse, or is it a whole different lens?

digitar 47, apo digital xl 47 and late Super angulon 47 are the same lenses. For digital work you will need a real late Super Angulon, the lens design is 30 years old or more, so the older lenses have not the high contrast  and are not as good corrected as the current- simply the advantage of better technology.
I can not say what pics are made with Digitar 47 and what with SA 47 mm, the results are simply the same. You need a lens that is well calibrated and in original shutter!
