Title: Cullmann Magnesit MB8.5 Ballhead - anyone?
Post by: David_G on February 06, 2013, 01:44:20 am
Has anyone had experience with the Cullmann Magnesit MB8.5 Ballhead?
Good, bad or indifferent - I'd like to hear please.

Thanks :)

No experience with that specific Cullman product but I  haven't been impressed with other Cullman products over the years however. You'd be better off looking for a used Arca-Swiss B1 Monoball on eBay or elsewhere or an new Arca-Swiss p0 and adding a full width Arca-Swiss compatible clamp. The Cullmann uses a spherical ball while the B1 (and Z1) use an aspheric shaped ball. The ball shape is a major contributor to the much higher load strength and it is nice to have the built in braking with any load as you tilt away from the vertical.
