The cloud lifted, some sunshine, a bit of a thaw & time for the council to clear some of the roads (roads over the hills had been closed due to depth of snow & fallen trees), and I've managed to get onto the hills at last. Snow was about 12 - 18" deep, plus the drifts, so occasionally thigh deep. I basically had the hills to myself, plus the deer & Exmoor Ponies of course. I'll post a few more as I get to process them, but here's a first few for your perusal & critique.

Now who is envious of who?
I have been waiting for this type of weather to hit us up here for some time now, but nothing other than a few flakes on the tops and a bit of melting ice on the lochs and if you have been watching the UK weather forecasts and the annoying amber warnings etc, it seems the only tiny part of the whole UK that didn't get any snow is the IoS. I must add that nobody up here wanted it though, so there is only me disappointed ???
Bill the frosted branch shot is a stunner, the colours are electric but true and it works both as a landscape and as an abstract, definitely one for the portfolio I am sure.
Perhaps this would be a timely opportunity for me to return your warm and friendly salutation, that you have passed onto me on so many previous occasions - Git!

Another one for number two! May I also suggest trying it in b&w? Red-filter b&w? That would really accentuate the distant orange trees, and turn the sky dark.
As an aside... where did all that snow go? I am sitting here in the Chicagoland, where left and right (a couple of hundred miles away, that is) people are stranded, power lost, roads blocked, schools cancelled, by several feet of snow. Here, we are lucky to see something that looks more like someone was dropping a few flakes from a salt shaker. And even that is gone before anybody noticed. >:(

I tried the B&W conversion. B&W is what I had in mind when I took the shot. The reality is disappointing though. Red filtration leaves a dark patch top right, and very little more. It really is one of those that looks better in colour.

Some really fine work Bill. I don't agree with the others. As far as I'm concerned the best of the lot are the backlighted ones: Sunburst, Winter Woodland, and Snow n' Sunshine. I know how hard it is to do this kind of thing well, and you've done it well. Bravo! Love the contrail in Winter Woodland. Looks like that was a pretty big bird.

Thanks for the comments. Russ, my favourites are also the contre jour shots. Apart from the exposure issue, positioning so as to avoid flare, is the hard bit.

Sunburst and Frosted Branch are my favourites.
We only had enough snow to give the kids on the way to school a great time scraping it off cars to make snowballs!
