Title: lr 4.3 win7 64 instability
Post by: hjulenissen on January 19, 2013, 02:45:52 am
I have experienced some instability in LR 4.3 that I cannot remember having seen in any other recent version. I havent quite tracked it down, but it seems connected to selecting a large number of images or touching a large number of sliders before the effects of the first edit have rendered. Windows will then throw a popup "the application is not responding", and LR freezes indefinately.

I guess this has happened 5 times or so to me. All of my edits up until the freeze were saved.

Never seen any problems like that with LR 4.3, or any previous version either. One of LR's virtues has been it's stability over the years.
touching a large number of sliders before the effects of the first edit have rendered.
You're either working extremely fast or have a slow system. I only see LR rendering images when first loading and occasionally when playing with the colour temperature slider, most other things are keeping up with the speed I work now.

There is a hotfix for this problem - not a Lightroom issue BTW but a Windows7 64-bit issue.
Read the info carefully for the link I am going to give to check whether the hotfix is really for you:

The link is for a Mac hot fix.

With respect I think you are confused - why would Microsoft provide a hotfix for an Apple Mac OS?
I have actually installed this hotfix on my Windows7 64-bit OS to deal with exactly the issues raise by the OP.

The issue that the OP raises almost certainly have nothing to do with Lightroom.

When I clicked on the link above the other day it took me to a mac hotfix????  Now when I click on it takes me to an x64 hotfix. Beats me.

Clicked on the link out of curiosity_ noted that the link is dated Oct-2010, and is not recommended unless you have the specific problem it address, and further notes that all hot fixes are included in subsequent Microsoft updates which is the recommended way to install.

No issue with that info - goes to what I said before.
Interestingly the fix fixed my system, the microsoft updates did not.
