Although this shot is firmly in the landscape genre I thought I would post it here.
Is it just too busy to be interesting?

I find it pleasing. I like (some) shots that are primarily about texture or pattern. This one works, for me. And the bits of color add some life that I think a BW conversion would lack.

Absolutely not. I love it.

Intriguing as well as interesting!

I share your view on this image. I like it but find that the color is not that pleasant. I would try a B&W conversion. There's not much too loose.

I cannot say one way or the other as to its goodness or whateverness, but I know had I happened on the same scene, I would have also shot it...and I would be facing the same dilemma as yourself. I think Russ has it right when he suggests shelving things for awhile until they ripen. Perhaps this is one of those shots.

I kind of lost tract of this thread. Thanks to everyone for the comments. I did a BW conversion but preferred the color. These crystals formed on the flat surface of a pond and the image is a focus stack of 6 shots. It is interesting how the loss of a reference frame and having everything in focus gives the illusion of an almost vertical plane (for me at least).

Funny as I thought of them on a slightly rounded surface. Fooled my eye for sure.

I like these alien, uncomfortable colours for this subject.

I like it and find it charming and edgy in the way that stained glass is charming and edgy.
Just for fun it would be interesting to play and soften or blur the image a little, or perhaps try the Orton effect or similar. The goal is to make it a tad more abstract. I dunno if that would be an improvement, or if it needs to be changed, but for the sake of fun.
