Title: Loch Slapin - Isle of Skye
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on January 08, 2013, 04:47:47 pm
This was a difficult shot to get, not the scene as such, but my dear wife loudly insisting that I stay in the car and not disturb the two otters playing and feeding in the water just in front of us - needless to say I had to throw on the deaf ears and get out of the car anyway and take the shot. Yes the otters quickly disappeared as soon as they saw me coming, which was a shame, but the shot was still worth the ensuing agony I think.

This is a very large pano BTW.

'Tis a beaut. I'm very jealous of your local conditions. I was going to apply for a job on Skye about 25 years ago. My wife wasn't keen though (too far away from her family), so it never happened. A shame.

BTW, I'd have stuck the telephoto on the camera & captured the otters, then gone for the landscape.

Lovely: white, blue, and gold nicely mixed.

Too bad about the otters, but a very nice shot.

Great! Is this part of a larger pano or I am misunderstanding you?

Excellent winter image. I also like the reflection in the calm water.

Hi Wim - no this is the web sized version of the full stitched pano.

We did actually sit watching the otters through binoculars (yes they were close, but with the bins we could see their little whiskers) for about ten minutes before I could wait no more and had to get out and take the shot and the wrath from head office. And, after the shot was in the can, we finished our picnic then drove up the loch a little way and found them again, still fishing and playing around.

BTW, I'd have stuck the telephoto on the camera & captured the otters, then gone for the landscape.

I usually only carry a short tele (70-200) and a 24-105 with me most of the time, although I would probably treat myself to an older second hand 300mm non IS f2.8 if I ever see one at a reasonable price, then leave it in the boot of the car, just for just such rare occasions when I might actually use it.

Thanks for all the positive feedback  :)
