Title: Need help with Photoshop print size
Post by: dragon6453 on January 06, 2013, 12:04:14 am
I'm running Mac OS 10.7 and Photoshop CS6 (13.0.3). I'm using a Canon iPF6100. I have an image 3200 x 3600 pixels that I'm printing at 400 ppi (or 8" x 9"). The image ends up approximately 8.125" x 9.25" on paper. I would like it to be exactly 8" x 9".

I've also printed this image using the same computer and print driver, but using other programs (QTR-Print-Tool and Lightroom 4). For both of these programs, the image came out exactly 8" x 9" on paper, as desired. This leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong in Photoshop.

I'm using the exact same settings in the print driver in Photoshop as for the other two programs, and have left the "Scaled Print Size" Scale: value at 100% in the Photoshop print dialog. Any suggestion?

In the Photoshop print dialog, does it say 8 x 9 in the Scaled Print Size section?

Yes, in the Scaled Print Size box it has Scale: 100%, Height: 9 and Width: 8.
The Scale to Fit Media checkbox is unchecked.
Print Resolution: 400 PPI.
The Print Selected Area checkbox is unchecked.
Units: Inches.

Using or not using Printing Marks make no difference.

At the top of the preview on the left side of the Photoshop Print Settings window there are what appear to be the dimensions of the printable area. For 8.5 in x 11 in paper, I have three options to choose from within the Canon iPF6100 Print Settings... dialog:
   1) Letter (8.5"x11") - for Paper Tray (Large Margins)
   2) Letter (8.5"x11")
   3) Letter (8.5"x11") - Oversize

Option 1) results in 0.12" (or 3 mm) margins on the left, top, and right, and a 0.91" (23 mm) margin on the bottom. The Photoshop provided dimensions are 8.486 in x 10.986 in  ???. The graphic hatching shows the margins in the appropriate size.

Option 2) results in 0.12" (or 3 mm) margins on all four edges. The Photoshop dimensions are also 8.486 in x 10.986 in  ???. The graphic hatching shows the margins in the appropriate size.

Option 3) results in no margin on any edge. The Photoshop dimensions are now 8.5 in x 11 in, and the hatching disappears as expected.

For the Position box, I leave the Center checkbox checked. For all three options, the stated Top: and Left: values are correct, and are relative to the printable area.

You should set the image size directly and also make sure that you are printing at 100% scale.
