Unusual composition, but I like it. I have a sense there was more sky before cropping, and, once again, I wish I could see more of it, even if blown out.

I agree.  The lighting is great, but I'd like to see more of the source.

Mike.

Your whim is my command! Here it is: I didn't like it much, and I thought the cropped shot was sufficiently unusual for me to get away with it.

I layered a B&W conversion over it.

You've certainly improved the sky, Bruce, but the rest of the shot has now lost everything that appealed to me in the first place. I'll try some "clever" masking tomorrow.

Jeremy, how about just always posting your original uncropped version with the cropped version so that right off the bat everybody can see the how cropping damages a good image. Almost always -- perhaps always -- when you've posted an altered version and then been talked into posting the original, it turns out the original is the better of the two. It's obvious you have "the eye." Why not stick with what your eye gives you?

I'll give it some thought! In the meantime, how about this version? I've added a negative exposure mask in LR, overlying the sky. I think the thing in the distance is a lighthouse, so it'll even tick one of Bill's boxes!

Here, also, is another from the same walk.

The new version is just fine, IMHO. Don't change another thing.
The rainbow is nice, too.

I'm with Eric, Jeremy. Very nice. I like the rainbow, but what makes that picture for me is the ominous clouds encroaching on the hills.

Both fine shots. But the rainbow has a great interplay of lines, light and shapes that I find very engaging.

Yes, the new version is the best. I like the "rainbow" image a lot. All the diagonal lines produce a very nice effect along with the heavy sky.

Wow to the new uncropped negative exposure overlayed image! The extra space helps the picture take a deeper breath, with the light being exhaled onto the landscape. Very nice.

Interesting! I do love the "God rays" but for the the rainbow image takes the cake!

Russ that's not always true. If one is a good designer, they always a shot with a specific image in mind for a more powerful image.

I've just fiddled with the rainbow shot a little more. Better?

Yes. And you haven't overcooked it, either.
