Title: HCAM HSS 8000 LED Flash Monolight with High Speed sync support.
Post by: FredBGG on December 30, 2012, 11:21:35 pm
Stumbled across this new product.

It's a battery powered 400w/s mono light with an LED pilot light.

The nifty thing about it is that it has high speed flash sync support for Nikon and Canon.

Looks quite interesting. If I understand correctly it loses less power than using a regular studio strobe
with a slow flash tube.

The flash tube is also a nice design with a full circle to the flash tube for cleaner shadows when used direct.

Should also work nicely through a fresnel lens.

One other nice thing is that the battery can also be used to power Nikon or Canon speedlights.

Stefan... can you tell us more about your new baby?

These lights are marketed under a 6 or more brands worldwide. Apparently made in China or somewhere in the Pacific rim.

Here's B&H's "Impact" version from a year ago before the LED modeling light.

Yes it's the same.

It's sold under different brands in the US, Britain and EU.

In the US they should be available soon from BH under their Impact Brand.

They are made by Shenzhen Gaoneng Photographic Equipment Co in China.

Here is the data sheet:

from HCAM's facebook page it says this:

Quote
The featurelist is impressive, The flash power with HSS mode is 50% as high as with normal Mode 1 setting, the powerconsumption is only marginally higher.

Losing only 50% power in HSS mode is quite interesting.

I'd be interested in knowing how well these work in a group of 4 in a softbox.

Ok-today we have tested the D800 with the HCam HSS Flash at 1/8000sec.

It works flawlessly down to the shortest time. One thing you need to know:
To be able to use the shortest sync time you have to set the camera to 1/320th sec Fast/Auto FP Mode otherwise even in manual the remotecontrol in the hot shoe will set the camera to a 1/250 sec.

We also tested the flash at the1/1600sec with a M645DF and a P65+ and a profoto trigger, this also worked perfectly. Will try to do a combination of the separate flash trigger with the flashes and the various MF bodies next.

Will be in London for a few days from thursday until sunday so if anyone wants to meet we could have a pint somewhere..... !

regards
Stefan

PS: You can couple as many of those as you want. I have tried 4 and they were perfectly synced. They can also be switched on and off single, the remote has 16 channels for this !
