Title: USB hubs and CF Readers that ARE compatible with the new Retina Macbook Pro
Post by: nemsye on December 18, 2012, 11:50:59 am
This seems to have caused a bit of a fuss online, and I have just ordered a new Retina Macbook Pro.

Now my trusty lexar express card cf reader cannot be used as the retina has no express card slot, also every single usb3 Hub I have investigated on the uk market reports problems with Retina Macbooks, as do the usb3 Cf readers,

a google brings up no specific answers beyond stating that usb3 1998 .1 compatible usb3 hubs will work with retina [apple], but then you find one and read its review, and no it doesn't.

so my question would be if anyone is using a usb3 hub on a retina AT USB3 speed, or a USB3 cf reader AT USB3 speed... and what they are?

much appreciation in advance.

p.s. the sandisk imagemate linked from the retina review here [before you mention it] get's absolutely PANNED on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-ImageMate-All-In-One-USB-Reader/dp/B005GP7WKU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355848524&sr=8-1

I will be using it for work and cant afford the pins to be randomly falling out on me... cheers!

I pick up a Kingston USB 3.0 Media Reader (http://www.kingston.com/us/company/press/article/2663) along with an  Iogear USB 3.0 (http://www.iogear.com/product/GUH374) 4 Port Hub at a local Tech store.
Both have been working well with the MacBook Pro Retina 15".
Have a number of USB 3 external hard drive attached.
With the Iogear Hub I do have to use the AC power adapter (cord) that is provided.

Thanks Stuart, that's excellent news,
Also the iogear has now been suggested to me on 2 different forums so has very much popped to the top of the list!
[even if it is 2x the cost of the competition here in the uk, but for something that works among a sea of ones that don't I think it could be really worth it!]
Thanks again,
