Title: Nikon patents digital back for 35mm SLR...
Post by: dreed on December 17, 2012, 11:46:12 pm
What if you could use that F6 in the closet to shoot digital rather than film?

Sounds pretty cool, I still have my like new F3 and F6... :)

The problem with the older bodies like the F3 is that most of my Nikkor lenses are G type...

Cheers,
Bernard

You see the advantage of being an old traditionalist? All my new lenes would still fit/work with my old/new F3!

How nice it would be if I were able to use a split-image, 100% view screen again! And not have a goddam never-used flash stuck up and out the prism to deny full use of PC lenses!

Please, Nikon, DO IT!

A 24MP FX back for my old FM or FE? Sounds like a plan.

Maybe they could now cross-license their digital back technology to Fuji.
I happen to have a GSW 690 in great condition. This Texas Leica has enough real-estate to accommodate not only a digital back, but also a Galaxy Note S2 phablet, retractable DP2M and a small ice-maker.

Finally after all of us have dumped our original Nikon gear Nikon realizes that all we needed was a digital insert. Can't imagine what we would've saved if this was the approach taken originally. Now all I can hope for is that Nikon decides to make a similar unit for a 4 x 5 camera.  >:(

15 years too late.

Rather close to the Silicon Film concept http://www.dpreview.com/news/2002/9/19/siliconfilmagain

I want one for my Maxxum 7 Limited.

Please give us Tilt/Shift at the sensor.

Try Kodak DCS200! Kodak's digital back for the N8008s, coupled through the contacts designed for the databack. 1.6MPixels, built-in non-removable 80MByte hard-drive.

Mine still works, although I've taken it apart several times to keep it running. It is 20 years old, bought it new. Take the back off, put on an MF-20, shoot with film. Maybe I should get a patent on using film-backs for digital cameras.

Well, a patent on a digital camera back isn't going to inhibit other people to patent novel functions that can be added to a digital camera back.

In the very short excerpt I see on the linked article, it seems like the "adjustable sensor plane location" (to deal with flange focal distance issues) is precisely one of those, if not the main crux of the patent application.  Does the Leica module let you do that?
