Title: Z3100PS custom profile for Canson Infinity Baryta 310GSM
Post by: jsiva on December 17, 2012, 11:06:10 am
Trying to make a custom profile using the printer spectrometer but having some difficulties.  Does anyone know the right paper preset to use?

Here's what I have run into so far:

1.  Canson has the OMS file for the Z3200, but not the Z3100.  The OMS file normally downloads to the printer and contains the right paper presets.  I tried to use the Z3200 OMS file, but this gives the dreaded 79:04 error and hangs the printer.

2.  Canson does provide an ICC profile for the Z3100.  This is a typical canned profile.  I tried it, and felt the reds were a little pink/magenta than I would like

3.  The instructions for the ICC for paper preset calls for using the Fine Art Pearl (More Ink) setting.  When I tried this setting as a custom paper preset for a custom profile, the scanner reported an error.

4.  I tried setting Photo Paper Glossy (Thick) and was able to generate a custom profile, but again, reds were not as good as I hoped and there were some roller marks on the paper.

5.  Also, using the custom profile generated above, when I select "greyscale" printing, I get the 79:04 error as well.

Spoke to Canson and they were not able to help.  Has anyone built a custom profile for this paper on a Z3100?  Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers...

Check what the original, Ilford Gold Fibre, has to offer in profiles and media preset advices.

media setting - Fine Art Pearl, less ink, for all my fiber gloss media.

Never had a problem, with ink limits that way on any of them.

The Canson Baryta and Ilford Gallerie do have unacceptable bronzing though, and that's on the Canon and the HP with the gloss optimiser. Better with Epson inks but still not good. I can't stand those papers with my printers, esp for bw that doesn't work at all, even when sprayed three coats with any uv varnish.

oh... I dream of a gloss fiber paper that doesn't curl so badly in roll form......

If you have profiled Iflord Gold Silk then just use that profile. If not then use the driver settings plus a new profile or try the Ilford canned profile which is not too bad. The response of the coatings of these two papers as far as I can tell is identical.

Update...Still not able to build a custom profile for the Z3100.  Ideally an oms file will be made available by Canson, but without an available printer for them, this may be difficult.  They are still on it.

Tried the other stock profiles, but none delivered to my expectation.  Hahnemule has an oms file for the Photo Baryta FB, will try using that to build a custom profile this week.
