Title: Canon C100 vs. Canon 5D mk3
Post by: billy on November 28, 2012, 05:31:27 pm
trying to justify a purchase of the c100 but wondering how it compares to my 5Dmk3? I would not be using an external recorder with the c100 btw. Wondering how they would compare in DR, resolution, gradability, and general file IQ. Anyone use both yet?

There is a test here:  https://vimeo.com/groups/c300/videos/54264270 (https://vimeo.com/groups/c300/videos/54264270)

You can download the test and the poster has links to download the original files.

the onboard ND and XLR IMO put the C100 in another class completely..

i would not go near the 5d3 in the C100 era

I prefer the FS100 over the C100, but use the C300 for corporate work.

Can you explain why?

I would think that the canon colours are a little better and the onboard ND super handy

(I own Fs100 BTW!)

Sure, it's cheaper! The images look good, and I see nothing in the image of the C100 worth the extra price. ND filters for $2,500? In return I get 60 fps and the phenomenal E mount.

I don't like the look of the C300. DR I don't care about, if at the end it still looks like video. And I shoot with L zooms and Zeiss CP2 primes. The ergonomics suck. Why do I use it then? Because I only have to pay about $180 per day for everything! My lighting bills are lower and I get a great codec for native editing.

If it's a choice between the 5D and C100, I'd choose the latter if budget isn't an issue.
