Slightly better (more balanced) composition and more visible light/shadow interplay. Slightly more abstract as well.

I'd like the forms in #1, especially the zig-zag, with the light and composition in #2.

Interesting shots almost abstract...again not a great deal in it, for me the 2nd shot has a better tonal range helped out by the shadows, i think the textures come across a little better in the 2nd as well.

I like both, but the second wins for me: more interesting, balanced composition.

A bit late to the vote but I actually prefer the composition in #1 because of the intersection of the 2 diagonals and the vertical near the top right 3rd point.  I do prefer the tonality of #2.

I prefer #2. I like how the shadows play with the eroded surface of the angled rocks.
