Title: Another year this trees life
Post by: SJ.Butel on November 11, 2012, 09:26:19 pm
Hello,
Here is a small project i started when i first joined LL.  A tree in the different seasons.

I am planning on doing this again, but have a different location this time.

Things i learn't and am doing different next time
Be more precise about marking the location of the tripod and the height of the tripod as well.
=)

If you have any suggestions about the post produciton, please feel free to add them here.  In general they were edited using LR3.6 using dodging, burning, curves and clarity.  Pretty much like in this video
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=43993.0

If you edit them, please list what you have done.

I tried to capture all the photos at very first light in the mornings, as soon as i could see a shadow on the tree.  If you would capture the scene differently i would be interested to here your views below,

cheers,
Steve

I like it, I dream of doing this but never get to it. As a nitpick you might want to mark your initial position or have a copy of your previous shot so it's done from the same spot. Although, on the the side, everybody tries to be in the same spot so being different might not be that bad after all.

Hah, Yeah i hear you loud and clear.  Even just the height differences makes a huge change in perspective when they are placed next to each other.  Makes me realise how important composing your shot for the overall result.  Thanks for the reply, that is certainly something i'll remember :D

Interesting project. If your point isn't marked, bring a large print from the last time and detailed camera settings and plan on spending time moving until your viewfinder matches.

The dark edges don't work for me, but i like it on the whole. Not sure how it would turn out, but i would be interested to see what could  be done to bring the images into one frame as a juxtaposition of seasons to make the viewer take a second look.

(edited for egregious typos)
