Title: Is Android just a toy?
Post by: ripgriffith on November 10, 2012, 11:06:11 am
Are there any truly professional grade photo apps for Android tablets?  The closest I have found is Photoshop Touch and, pardon me for saying this, it's for children editing snapshots from their phones.  I have yet to find anything even approximating ACDSee Pro, or Lightroom or any other Raw file editor, certainly no Digital Asset Management apps.

I would be most happy to hear how wrong I am, and for someone to list all the ones they use, but I don't want to hear about all the apps available for iPads or the apps that limit the size of your files to 12mpix or so.

Editing, and worse processing, is not very easy on an uncalibrated (and often TN) display... I see apps as DSLRController or Helicon Focus more useful for the photographer.

I rather doubt it. The necessary processing power and memory would surely be lacking, as would the market among users, almost all of whom would choose to do their editing on more suitable hardware. But it would be silly to conclude that "Android is just a toy". It is an operating system that supports a great variety of uses, photographic and otherwise, just not this one.
