Title: LLVJ-20
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on November 08, 2012, 03:18:38 pm
... I intend to take a break from editing and then return to the Video Journal in late Summer/early Fall.

Chris

Is there any news yet Chris?

I have just about worn out the DVD's my other 19 LLVJ's are stored on, in fact I am getting to the point where I can talk along with the dialogue, as I have heard it so many times and almost know it off by heart  ::)

A huge multi LLVJ edition download would be a nice Christmas present, so come on Santa ;D

No, the series on video never achieved the sales that we had hoped. I think I'll stick to producing Video Journals for a while!

Best wishes

Robert

I was referring to the lack of sales of the Guide to Cinematography

Ok, that relieves me to hear ( although it is a pity that your effort in this particulary footage is not honored well) !

I was afraid that this could lead to a stop in video-production at all.

No rush Chris, yesterday will do  ;D

Also Chris, over the intervening years since the last VJ's, I assume MR has/had done various reviews of kit and many other photography related things that could be considered as being no longer current in this ever and rapidly evolving realm of photography, and as such you may decide not to release such work, but as I came to the LL-VJ's relatively late and bought all 19 VJ's in one go, I still very much enjoyed Michael's reviews of cameras and kit that were no longer in production, because it is interesting.

So I suppose what I am saying is, that if there is stuff that is going to go onto the cutting room floor, just because it is no longer seen as current or relevant, then I for one would still be interested in viewing this material, how ever rough cut it is.

There is inevitably some discussion of super-annuated equipment that is redundant and which I cut out but almost nothing gets left behind that is location shooting with older equipment. For instance in the China sequence of LLVJ-20, Michael is shooting with the Canon 1Ds II!

Hi Chris,

that's exactly what I'm also after !

Perhaps you can create a simple package of uncut material of Michael's old or out of date product-reviews ( which you normally would uncut) and sell it for a special price.

So everybody can decide whether she / he wants it or not.

Just an idea - but ino idea of the effort needed to do this.

Just take my damned money already...  ;)

Seriously though, love the LLVJ, my favourite legacy of this site, kudos to all involved. A new issue in time for Christmas will make my holiday season, so more power to your elbow Chris.

It will give me something to watch whilst I wait for my BMCC....

Hello,

many thanks for this great piece of masterwork !

One of the greatest gifts of this package is to see Michael back on his feet in the introduction !!!!!!!

I just stick at the first few minutes of the videos and can't wait to see the rest ( but afraid of ending this set too fast).

Best wishes

Robert

Chris,

No problems down loading via AT&T Uverse (Internet). Have set the videos up via iTunes so now I will be able to view via the LED Sharp TV using AppleTV.

Good job.

Best,

Stu

All I can say is, astounding job as always. The moment I saw it, I jumped over it. I haven't watched it yet, just the introduction, but I feel a special relief at watching Michael recovering from his health issues, and talking about future projects. God is good, and keep blessing us every moment, my friend.

Looking forward to spend some time this weekend with a glass of good wine watching the LLVJ 20. ;D

Just one thing ... when's VJ-21 due? .... Kiddin'  :D

Just watched the Intro…
What can I say, the tear that appeared on Michael near the end of the first video, maybe just because of the cold, pretty much matched the one I had getting my hands on the new LLVJ.

Michael, so good to see you in shape.
Chris, thank you so much for the hard work.

About halfway through LLVJ20 and really enjoying it.  Thank you Michael and Chris!  My LOL moment was during the Li River segment, when Michael refers to dusk shooting at the "extremely high" ISO of 1600 :)  Can't imagine what the next 5 years will bring us in that department.  Also terrific to see Michael continue his recovery.

I've seen most of the journals and have to say this was by far my favorite to date.  I streamed it to the big screen through my Apple TV as well, and the picture was outstanding.  The segments on China and the interview with Art Wolfe were just so good and so interesting.  Sometimes I've felt that past segments were more like travel journals than anything, but this one just had such good content.  Thank you.

Hi Chris,

Is using good reader still the recommended way to view the video journals on an iPad ?

I think there are now many ways to watch videos on the iPad. The trick with the Mac-centric iOS is to get them onto the iPad in the first place.

Apple's accepted way is by using iTunes for synching and file transfer. So you download to a laptop or Desktop and then make the file transfers.

IMO iTunes is a PIA. There is no way to directly download the zip files to the iPad, decompress them and then watch them other than with GoodReader that I am aware of. I'd be interested in others' experience.

Argh, right, thought that was still the case. My MacBook Pro only has osx 10.5.8 on it and needs 10.6.x to run iTunes 7 which is then needed to sync with an ios6 device like my iPad, geez, what a carry on, ordered a 10.6 upgrade disk from apple uk but may take 3 weeks for delivery.

You don't need iTunes - there are plenty of third party apps - try this one, just mount your iPad and move the files over http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/ (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/)

Hi,

thanks for that link, certainly seems like quite a comprehensive and flexible application but, at a price. I have the upgrade disk on order now which was only £14 or so and will see how that goes.
