Title: Would you buy my book?
Post by: Jason Denning on November 03, 2012, 03:08:54 pm
Hello

I started a Kickstarter project recently for a book I hope to publish, it's been a slow start so I am going to get some PR done.
It's my first attempt to make a book but I feel it is the perfect outlet for it.

Just wanted to know your thoughts on it?

Thanks

Jason

Jason, I think your landscapes are quite good. However, I think you set your Kickstarter goal unrealistically high.

I've seen projects from photographers whom I would regard as being equal or better to yourself fail to attain goals that were a fraction of yours.

I realize that publishing a 300-page book is an expensive proposition and in order to achieve the economies of scale needed to keep the price reasonable you probably had to set the goal high.

I just don't think that Kickstarter was an appropriate means to fund your project. I would have been more inclined to shop it around to art book publishers to see if any would be willing to partner with you for the cost of publication.
