Title: Bored with the same old Autumn color shots, so.....
Post by: Mjollnir on October 09, 2012, 01:23:14 pm
I tried something different.  That, and the fact that the area around Bishop was already getting past prime 2 weekends ago.

You broke the rules and broke them well.  This image really works, and I can't tell you why.  THAT is when good photography becomes fabulous.

It is a cracker!  An absolute cracker.

Can you imagine the grief it would generate as a jig-saw puzzle?  LOL

I too like this one. I wish I could stop seeing the one dark branch in the right as a rifle though, left in the tree. And it drags me to the prominent tree crop on the right. Still looking to see how that could be avoided, but does not change the fact that it is a beauty! Those few tats of red leaves too... nice touch by nature.

Wish you hadn't said "bored". You'd be amazed by how many forests can no longer develop the brilliant autumn hues, without stress and disease blight, or sheer failure to thrive to end season. Count those blessings.

That's a lovely photo.

However, am I the only one who doesn't understand how it is not "the same old autumn color shot"?

Nope.

Thanks, everyone.

What I mean by the 'same old' shots was the type of thing that I see fairly often coming out the area closest to me and where I usually go every year, the Eastern Sierra.  I should have been more specific.

Not quite so much as shots from Colorado, but there are two things that really stand out as, IMO, overshot:

A.  the grand, sweeping panoramic shots that include the same geological features every season.  The rare, interesting shot of, say, aspens on the Conway Summit is a wonderful thing to find.
B.  The same angles shots from the most heavily trafficked areas, like almost anything from North Lake, Surveyor's Meadow, Bishop Creek from between, say, Weir Pond and Parchers (LOTS of cascades therebetween)

Two weeks ago, North Lake was already done, but the canyon of the south fork of Bishop Creek around the Willow Campground area was very nicely colored out in places, so it made it more challenging to both avoid the droves of other people there and to work with what one could find.

I'm sort of jealous of those in CO since they can go waaaaaay off road to places with a lot of color, but the Eastern Sierra only has so many places that don't require hiking to get it, and many of those are a scant 1-2 miles from a parking lot (i.e., Parker Lake, the west side of Convict Lake, etc...)
