Title: A99 review - Zeis lens AF coming for...?
Post by: dreed on October 08, 2012, 06:30:03 am
From the article:
"Zeiss doesn't do AF on any of its branded lenses (yet)."

Does anyone know anything more about this implication that sometime soon Zeis lenses will feature an AF mechanism?
Or am I just reading too much into a word squeezed between a pair of parenthesis?

He may have been referring to the new Zeiss AF lenses coming next year for Fuji X mount and Sony e-mount.

Zeiss don't make AF lens except for Sony.
Next fall will come 3 lens for E and X mount.

ZA lens has unique design.
For example ZA 1.4/85  differs from other known Planars (C|Y, Cpntax N, ZE|ZF) - it has different optiocal formula.
Same with Distagon 2/24 and 2/25. Completely different optics and a little better performance of ZA lens (for 85s much bigger difference in IQ between ZA and ZE|ZF, actually based on old 70s design on C|Y version).
