I have already a HC 100mm 2.2, which I use for portrait.
For nature and fine art, should I better go with HCD 35-90mm zoom or with a 28mm / new 50mm II combo?
Anybody having experience with the zoom?

Hi,
If you have HxD-50. (not 60) HCD 35-90 is superb. Very fast AF, very high IQ. Very good lens for Fashion.
But 35mm /50mm(HCD 35-90) is far away from HCD28 and HC 50 MK II.
If you need wide lens it is better to have 28 and 50.
Just buy HTS 1.5 - and you will have dream team ;)

I shoot with all these great lenses 28, 50 II and 100
110.
I don't buy 45-90 because it is too heavy. I mostly use 100, may be also because it is lightweight ;D

I am planning to buy the H4D40. If someone wants to upgrade to the H5D, let me know.

I sent you PM.

Thanks. I got it.

The 35-90 on an H4D-40 is a great combination for landscapes, IMO -- high quality and versatility.

The 35-90mm does work with the HxD and a 60MP back, but at the wide setting and automatic crop
is performed so effectively the zoom range becomes shorter.

This is incorrect. There is an autocrop functionality that crops the lens to 37x49 sensor area which is slightly over 50MP. This crops at all zoom settings, the zoom is stil a 35-90 however the sensor area used is 37x49.
This autocrop functionality can be turned off after which you can use the full sensor area. This is something that is less obvious when you need the best quality up into the corner however even then it can be helpful in those cases you need to slightly level your image and are forced to crop a bit. On things like portraits I don't care that much about corners and/or a slight vignetting.

I guess since I will be using it with a 40Mp back, this will affect me.
-
No, it will not the H4D40 has a sensor size of 33x44 ,even smaller sensor than 37x49 for which the HCD lenses are made.

Does it mean I am using the best (center) part of the lens, avoiding some of the abberations / vignetting that may not be corrected with DAC.
Or is that a myth?
