It's a very nice specimen... Even with the global warming, I haven't seen one of these in Switzerland, yet!

But it might be quicker than one thinks. A golden jackal has been spotted in central Switzerland!

Fascinating stuff, but at least he was warm-blooded.
The Swiss seem a little jumpy about accepting new wildlife though.
They need to chill a bit I think.

Right, the Swiss authorities love organised nature and everything that's not part of the official plans is promptly eradicated!

:(

As for the golden jackal, from what I understand and what the WWF said, the preference would be to protect local endangered species like bear/lynx/wolf/beaver instead of foreign visitors.

Well the Swiss need to understand that when you eradicate apex predators other things go completely nuts.

In Australia when they shot out the Saltwater Crocodiles suddenly the Barramundi disappeared as well.
Took everyone a while to figure that one out since Barramundi are PREY for the Salties.
When shooting crocodiles was banned and the crocs started coming back suddenly the Barramundi did too!

Apex predators are key to a balanced ecology.

Apex predators are key to a balanced ecology.

Try to convince local politicians, they're more interested in real estate promotion than nature conservation. Even the landscape is taking a huge hit these days.

This is sad, very sad!
