Did you see the footage of the fire near Alice Springs (15-9-2012) last night?
-
No.
I am currently in Broome.
No sign of this on any of the news in WA.

I'd vote for #2, it's fantastic, almost 3D.

Amazing!
While I'm here: Tony! #4 is interesting. What was the thinking behind it?
-
Thanks Scott,
The four images show a progression over time.
I was just out looking for good images in the late afternoon light.
We were on the Mary River floodplain.
We were aware of the fire but it was to the north and seemed far away.
Within minutes though we had ash dropping down around us and smoke down at ground level.
Given the narrow bush track we were on I knew that if any of the ash dropping out of the sky started spot fires then we would be in trouble.
The best way out actually took us north-east - towards the fire as it turned out.
That last image was taken in the safety of a very wide dirt road but the smoke, at that point in time, was incredibly thick and caused, even for the tropics, premature dusk and darkness. I am not sure that it has any particular aesthetic in isolation but in the context described above it speaks volumes.
The original image I posted shows the fire as we found it after dark.

That last image ... I am not sure that it has any particular aesthetic in isolation but in the context described above it speaks volumes.
It did a good job of making me uneasy, even without the explanation.

The second picture is awesome. Very interesting trees.

2&3 for me push, comes to shove...#2 love the superb subtle colours

Search for "fire tornado australia".

Beautiful shots but I hope I never see anything like it in real life because I live in a bushfire prone area myself and it has me a little nervous.
Can I ask... Was your home in danger and did you stay and fight the fire? If so, what fire fighting equipment did you have on hand?
I think I have nearly everything I need and hope it's all good enough stuff not to fail on me when I need it.
The only thing I'm missing is glasses to keep smoke out... Does anyone know if these fire fighting goggles fire fighting goggles (http://www.workplacesafetywarehouse.com/ppe-equipment-list-products/803-fire-fighter-safety-goggles.htm) would be good enough?
Also, are Honda fire fighting pumps worth the extra money?
Thanks all.
