Post by: Tony Jay on September 07, 2012, 12:45:41 am
Another recent capture.
Enjoy.
BTW if anyone can shed light on the make of this vehicle I would be much obliged.

It lookd to me immediately like an old Ford pickup...but I don't think Ford made one from this model, but they did make different models for the european market.so perhaps. It is the headlight cowlings that lead me to beleive it is a 53-54 Ford.

Just for fun, I tried to identify the pickup using Google's image matching:

Results: not good (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbs=simg:CAESXxpdCxCo1NgEGgIIAgwLELCMpwgaNgo0CAESDvsEgwWSBIwEhQXKA4gEGiD0jBdDCLBWZsSEteQnx6qQlB33usypuIvLh3qa3X72twwLEI6u_1ggaCgoICAESBIlFrbMM&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=0PZJUPfKAseH4gTI1oDoCA&ved=0CCoQsw4&biw=1178&bih=1123)!

Tony,

 1956 Ford Fairlane Tudor sedan.

I had a convertible, my first car.

Except the back end looks more like a pickup than a sedan.

This is called a Ute and is was made primarily for the Austrailian market.

I suspect this is a different year but this model was imported from 1950-1955 +/-. Note the back end which I think is a dead giveaway and the headlight cowlings on the front end are the second clue. Evidently from my limited research, Utes are still the primary choice of vehicles for those living in the outback. Makes sense.

I'll be .......... You're right Chris. It is a 1956 Ute, built in Australia just for the Australian market. The one you have pictured is a 1955.

Whoohoo, I love researching stuff like this. In my research, I found the Chevy El Camino and Ford Ranchero were quite popular among the Ute type vehicles in Australia. Quite interesting vehicles.

Much obliged by the effort everyone went to.
It did have very distinctive lines and I knew someone would recognize the vehicle.

This is the Australian bush for you - one sees the strangest things if you are prepared to look.
