One of the idiosyncrasies of black and white conversion: red and green often appear as the same shade of gray.

I like the dual and dueling geometric perspectives on each side of the frame, which because of the slope don't so much vanish to a point but arrive at different sets of overlapping towers on the same string of power lines. The blending of the rowed fields in the middle makes it seem a friendly duel. The foreground fence, that is both new and old, can be seen as a related metaphor.

Not just digital conversions: one of the main things you had to learn when doing b/w fashion, especially outdoors. You got no prizes for camouflage shoots! A medium grey is a medium anything else - the basis of working an exposure meter, and why filters were useful in order to bring a bias towards a particular colour into the situation.

Yeah, for this photo to possibly work (and not saying it will), you'll need to do a B&W conversion that separates by color channel. Otherwise, it's just a gray, muddy mess. How does it look in color?

This was my way of saying that trees/bushes in the middle ground dominate the image, in conflict with the title. Foreground is devoid of interest, while the strawberry fields in the background occupy only one fifth of the image, hardly enough to warrant the title (not to mention that nothing indicates they are strawberries). The sky is equally bland. Perhaps a more appropriate title would be, say, "Rhapsody in Gray"? ;)

Fair point, Slobodan. Most of the visible real estate, by acreage, is strawberry fields, but most of the frame is not. Consider it to be called "Landscape Near Moss Landing" if you prefer!
It looks horrendously oversharpened to me now, but I promise I did not lean on the "Sharpen" lever. Commentary suggests that tones should be re-placed, and I agree.
