Title: Macbook Retina: editing files on Retina vs. color accurate external monitor?
Post by: Ligament on August 14, 2012, 03:38:12 pm
I have a loaded Macbook Pro Retina on the way. I currently own the NEC 24" Widescreen Color-Critical Desktop Monitor w/ SpectraViewII and NEC calibrated puck.

How would you pros suggest I use these two? I'm currently thinking Retina display for sharpening and pixel editing and the spectraview for color accuracy and color work. Does this sound smart?

Related, how color accurate is the Retina display, and can it be calibrated succesfully? If so, which software would you recommend I use with my NEC calibrated puck?

Thank you!

C. David Tobie has some in depth thoughts on the MBP Retina, Calibration and profiling: http://cdtobie.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/retina-display-macbook-pro-for-calibration-and-photography/

Lloyd Chambers has several pages of info about setting up working with the MBP Retina: http://macperformanceguide.com/mbpRetina2012.html

Both Tobie and Chambers are diligent (as opposed to dilettante), through, and  honest reviewers. C. David Tobie is way high up the hierarchy at Datacolor so his comments about profiling tools are about their tools.
