Title: Olympus/MS codecs (re OMD)
Post by: OldRoy on August 11, 2012, 12:24:58 pm
Not sure what the appropriate forum for this is but here goes.
I like to shuffle my RAW files around at the OS level (ie not managing the directory structure via a 3rd party application like LR). I just installed the Olympus Win 7/64 codec
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/codec/raw_codec_dl.cfm
but it still doesn't display the thumbnails (after reboot). The release date for this codec is 2009, which is ominous...
There's also a Microsoft codec
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
which, although it doesn't list the OMD in the supported cameras, I'd assume that the ORF protocol has been maintained through release of various cameras.
I'm tempted to un-install the Olympus version and try the MS codec however there's a confusing thread on DPR which is not helping the decision.

Anyone figured this puzzle out yet?
Roy

LR is certainly an overkill and PITA to do that but you can use explorer-like utilities like xnview - their are lightweight
