Title: Hot Shoe Adapters
Post by: walter.sk on July 31, 2012, 03:27:17 pm
My wife has been using an old Sony Alpha 100.  She recently came across her old Nikon SB28 strobe.  Is there any sort of adapter that would allow her to use the Nikon flash on the Sony Alpha camera safely?  And is there any way that she would be able to control some of the flash's functions?

If you Google Sony Hot Shoe adaptor you'll find a bunch of them.  Can't say about the controls, though.

Walter, take a look at Flash Zebra, they have an extensive inventory of cables and adapters for different systems. The Sony flash accessories are here:

Thanks, Mike and Dave.  I looked at a bunch of adapters now, and my impression is that they would simply allow the Nikon flash to fire, but with no camera control over flash parameters.  I don't know if using the flash's controls to set up for every exposure would be too tedious for my wife's shooting, but on the other hand, the adapters are generally inexpensive enough to give it a try.

Even the small SONY flashes are great. Another consideration would be to look into a used flash that's designed for the camera.
