Title: macbook crash bang nec p221w monitor
Post by: lowep on July 21, 2012, 08:19:36 pm
For some months I have been using a macbook with a nec p221w external monitor with a vga connection. A few days ago the monitor started crashing: where my photo was suddenly there is only a blank screen and a flashing amber light. This has continued happening so am trying to figure out what the flashing amber light means?

does it go back to normal on a power off - on cycle of the screen ?
check the cable attachment is fully in. power cable as well.

from the manual -
Self Diagnosis
• The LCD display is equipped with the ability to self diagnose abnormalities. When the LCD detects a problem, the LED
on the front flashes in a pattern of long and short blinks, depending on the type of problem detected.
• If the LED detects a problem, please refer service to qualified personnel

what is the pattern ?
Then call NEC i guess

pattern is 2 short followed by one longer amber blink

when I disconnect the monitor from the computer it goes to constant amber (no blink)

maybe this is some weird macbook-nec-eye-one-love-hate thing?

Can you plug it into another machine and see if it behaves the same ?

Can you use the other input port ? DVI or Analog and see if you get the same behavior ?

Do you have a spare cable to try ?

Otherwise, i would call NEC support on Monday and ask for an explanation.
