Title: Silver FX Pro on large files.
Post by: Kirk Gittings on July 15, 2012, 08:40:06 pm
I have been playing around with Silver FX Pro and found some use for it on small digital files. Today I decided to try it on a big scanned file................It works fine on files like 360 DPI at 16x20, but bump it up to 360 DPI and 30x40 and it completely freezes. W7 6 core 72 GB Ram, updated graphics driver, updated Silver FX Pro.

Anyone have experience with this program on large files?

Well I take it back. It worked. I broke for dinner came back and it had run to completion. I just have to walk away for an hour and let it chug along!

32-bit version used to crash pretty regularly on big files, but x64 version of v2 seems to be OK; although as you've noted, it can be really slow. Actually the big wait once you hit 'OK' is not so bad (mildly annoying, but at least I can multi-task and check email/forums, etc). What's frustrating is the lag in the preview redraw when changing controls.

My experience with large files, like around 1GB or larger (sometimes 3-4 GBs) is the opposite. Redraw is a little slow but exporting to a layer takes 45 minutes to an hour.
