Hi everyone!
Finally i was able to afford to buy My own printing equipment!
I went with a Epson 9900 including the spectroproofer for it and a eizo CG275w, with the packagemaker i also Got the software "mirage"
The thing is; i know (almost) nothing about How to work with this equipment!
The plan is to produce My own prints (i own a portraitstudio), but also to produce fine art prints For orter proffesional photographers.
In the studio i had a Epson 4900 For about à year but only produced On Epson luster 260 paper - and the result has been good so far!
I heard that making own profiler is far better than industry standards - but How do i use the spectroproofer and the LCD in à proper way?
My first goal is to find à good and economic satin "housepaper" and à canvas, i also want to find à good matte fine art paper For more exclusive Jobs and à Really cheap paper when money is more important then quality.
another photographer Told me that when changing from photo black and matte black On the printer the maintence box fill up pretty quick - Do someone here has any experience of this?
I work with apple computers with OSx lion on them - is it possible to install/use myepsonprinter.eu On it? I only found the .exe filé On Their website!
I am more than happy For any help or tips On How to use My equipment in best possible way!

Hi,
I also have an Epson 9900 printer and I do my own calibration using a Datacolor spyder4 kit. Doing your own calibration is a must if you want the best quality output from your printer.
After testing a variety of satin papers I find myself using Ilford Gold Fiber Silk paper the most. It is beautiful and it is also fairly economical.
It is best to try out as many types of paper as possible and then decide for yourself the one you like as the choice of paper is very personal.

Yes, changing from matt black to photo black does consume a bit of ink as the printer clears the pipeline and fills it with the new ink. But, unless you start changing inks after every print, it should not be a problem. In my experience the maintenance box fills up most quickly when cleaning clogged nozzles of the printer.
I also use my Epson 9900 with OSx. The epson drivers work quite well with it.

I'm afraid it's to complicated to aswer your question in a few words, so only a few suggestions.
- if you know almost nothing, maybe start here:

- I believe the dealer just thoughtlessly sold you a bunch of most expansive gear he had, that wasn't necessary needed for your work. Why not ask him for an on-site training or assistance?
- AFAIK The "Pro" version of Mirage software can create ICC profiles using Spectroproofer. If it's a basic version of Mirage, you need to use Epson software to read targets, and create profiles with ProfileMaker Packaging, which is a little bit more complicated. One could wonder why the dealer sold you Mirage AND ProfileMaker Packaging... ::)
- hard to predict what's available in the place you live, but Epson Premium Luster is a good choice if it's priced reasonably. As for fine art papers, I'd get Hahnemuehle, Canson, Harman and Epson samples and ask my clients which they like most. Epson has a fancy DIGIgraphie programme, so you can also follow his suggestions regarding fine art papers:

- SP9900 wastes 5-6ml for PK<>MK swich, so it may fill the maintenance up a little bit quicker. I'd be more concerned about ink waste, but anyway you should plan your work to avoid frequent ink changes.

I read somewhere that you only need a PC For the installation of myepsonprinter and when it is Done i can use throuh my webbrowser instead and no PC is required! Does someone Have experience of this? Cause in that case i only need to borrow à laptop to fix it! :)

For the initial setup of MyEpsonPrinter I borrowed a Windows laptop with XP. Since then I have been able to manage everything just fine using OS X. It did take me a few tries with the Windows laptop to get it to work. Be patient with the tool. It is rather slow at times. But things are quite fine once it is installed.
