Title: Yellowstone - Primordial Steam
Post by: Slobodan Blagojevic on July 02, 2012, 08:48:49 am
I do not remember posting this before:

Yellowstone (http://www.flickr.com/photos/slobodan_blagojevic/3357417288/) by Slobodan Blagojevic (http://www.flickr.com/people/slobodan_blagojevic/), on Flickr

EDIT: Just remembered that the whitish forum background tends to render the image appear darker and with less detail in the shadows. If it is not too much trouble, clicking on it will take you to Flicker, where just one more click would bring you a larger version on a clean black background.

Stunningly dynamic image Slobodan.

I am not certain that I have the adjectives to fully describe what this image does for me.

Regards

I'm a sucker for quality crepuscular light rays, so you got me; I like it.

Superb image. The shafts of light, filtered by the trees bring life to this photo. The B/W treatment works perfectly.
Well done... more, please!

Thanks guys, I am glad it means something to someone else, other than me.

It was at the end of a long day walking around Yellowstone, after all other, much more famous vistas, when this simple scene, tucked into a quiet corner, barely noticeable by most who are rushing back to the lodge or their cars, struck me as so timeless, so millions of years ago, so... well, primordial. And scary beautiful.

NOTE: Just remembered that the whitish forum background tends to render the image appear darker and with less detail in the shadows. If it is not too much trouble, clicking on it will take you to Flickr, where just one more click would bring you a larger version on a clean black background.

Slobodan, I'm glad you chose to post this one here.  I've seen and admired it on your flickr before and it is my favorite of your Yellowstone group.  I am very fond of the bison shot as well.  I grew up just outside of Yellowstone and in the past spent a lot of time in the back country but I have done almost no photography there.

Lovely Slobodan,
Very evocative image, great feel and sense of "place".

Very good photo. I am kept waiting for the T-Rex to show up any time now...

"crepuscular light rays" - I love the image and as much, I love that I've learned a new word to go with such a lighting scene. I know now, I shall never look at such light and not use crepuscular to describe it. Thank you, Mjollner!

Ok then... just for the "suckers" for crepuscular rays: ;)

I just noticed this one as I caught up with some of the recent posts. Very evocative treatment of light on the primordial soup. I'm headed to Yellowstone in a couple of months, and I'll see if I can spot your spot.

Great shot Slobodan. It is much better on the other site!  I like the eery feel of the fog.

This got a gut response from me, it has that extra emotional content that distinguishes "pretty pictures" from photographic art.

Both very nice. My first reaction was that the term "crepuscular" applied only to rays in the sky, but I see it is more widely used.

It's too bad that such a lovely effect has such an ugly name: "I think I just stepped in something crepuscular!"
