Title: i1isis feed roller check / clean from contanmination
Post by: smilem on May 28, 2012, 07:49:16 am
Hello, X-rite has made very hard to open i1isis, you have to use a screwdriver at least for rev. E.
I don't understand why they did this as cleaning rubber rollers that feed the paper is crucial to proper operation.

Some papers hold pigment particles better some worse, there is often the case when you forget to check (rub your finger on the paper) if testing new inks, paper combinations. Feeding this paper to i1isis will make it inusable as the rubber rollers will be coated with black residue that needs to be cleaned or it will leave tracks on you patches !

Once you open the i1isis it is very easy to clean:

There are two metal roller bars that have rubber rollers on them, the small one is in front where you feed the paper, and the big one that actually feeds the paper is easily seen one you open the unit. Both of them must be cleaned.

1. Ensure you are in dust free environment
2. Wear pouder free gloves
3. Use lint free cleaning cloth I recommend Photographic Solutions PEC-PAD
4. Use cleaner like WEICON Cleaner Spray S or more approporiate WEICON Plastic Cleaner (isopropyl will not work).

Clean until you can no longer see black stains on the cleaning cloth.

Cleaning technique:

Spray cleaning spray on the PEC-PAD and hold it with your left hand on the rubber roller that you are cleaning then rotate the metal shaft with you right hand by using plastic gear on the right side of i1isis.

The cases has always been very difficult to open, the new Rev isn’t really any different. First time is a real bitch, it gets a bit loser as you do this more often. Agreed, the design isn’t very good!

You can make it easy to open i1isis by removing the plastic tab that holds the cover by simply sliding it out to the side, then trim a bit of plastic by using some sort of metal guide to help trim the plastic evenly.
