Hi,
Could anyone recommend a suitable clear film for printing window graphics on a Canon IPF8300?
Many thanks

Sihl offers a product called ClearSTICK, which is a 2mil gloss clear polyester film with an optically clear, repositionable adhesive. Since the material has an optically clear adhesive, it can be reverse mirror printed and installed on the inside of the window and readable from the outside.

Hello,
I was wondering if this clear film would work on an ipf9100? If so, would the default media type be "Adhesive Synthetic paper" or "Backlit Film"?

Does your printer have white ink?
-
no it does not.

These are the wrong machines for this film unless you are going to laminate some white to it.

The clear film will exhibit transparent colors, except black, which is opaque. The higher the black content of a dark color, the more opacity it will exhibit. Of course, any area that is white in the image will be clear when printed on clear film. There is a backlit version with adhesive, but the OP asked for clear. The backlit version has a diffusion layer which appears white in the unprinted areas, but the film is opaque and that may not work for the window application of the OP.

I get what you mean. I need the whites to be transparent so, in theory, the Clear Stick should work for my intentions but I was wondering more for compatibility and actual usage of the medium on a canon plotter. Has anyone used this on a canon plotter before?
Thanks,
John

How about the Kapco clear adhesive? See, www.shadesofpaper.com ;)
Very unique adhesive clear vinyl media. http://www.shadesofpaper.com/index.php?cPath=90&osCsid=b99jvu99g83omb9bf04svhal85
Pretty much anything for typical signage using a pigmented ink printer should be considered "temporary" but I like that there are now pigmented ink options at least to consider. I've profiled this media for an Epson 9800 and it prints well. Haven't had time to generate a profile for the 9900. Solvent printers offer more (better) solutions.

One of the cool things in the industry now is to print this clear film on a flatbed in three passes.
First pass for the image that will be seen from the outside.
Second pass is white on top of the first image,
Third pass is the same image as the first pass on top of the white layer.
When applied to a window the image can be seen from both the inside and the outside.
These are frequently contour-cut prior to application.
On printers like we have you would normally use this film for a light-box however the quality is not nearly as good as a Duratrans IMHO.
What are you trying to do?
