Post by: tim wolcott on February 24, 2012, 12:23:33 am
If your really interested in buying a 8300 or 6300.  There is a sale but it ends on the end of March.  The cost is for 8300 is 2449.00 of that includes the 1000 rebate and the 6300 is 2249.00.

But here is the kicker 95 dollars a month and no INTEREST.  FOR IPF8300 44 INCH PRINTER

Or 70 dollars for the IPF6300 and no interest.

Yeah.... This is the deal to be had, I wish I wasn't such an Epson whore.. :-)  I'd love to buy the Canon, I can't say I ever had bad luck with their printers, just their digital cameras.  I believe in Product Karma and now only buy Nikon Cameras / lenses and Epson printers.  But this is tempting and I'd love to pull the trigger.

Seems hard to imagine that there is only a $200 difference between 24" and 44"  :o

If only I could sneak one into the house w/o the wife noticing it   ;D

I agree, my first response to them was, well how many are you willing to sell at that price.  Comment as many as we can sell!!!!!

For 95 dollars a month and no interest.  Just the cost of printing image in ink cost would allow you to throw the others a way.  Thats what I'm doing.

I have both and the Epson are now being scrapped.  To be honest I have not used them since I bought the Canon a well over a year ago..

Mainly because the blacks are fantastic with amazing colors.  I have made over 1000 prints and still have a couple original cartridges in the printer.

I don't think my wife would notice a 6th LF printer :)  I could just tell her it has been there all along.

Try putting an attractive doily on top of it. Or a table lamp.   ;)

If I wanted to buy an 8300 here in Australia I would have to pay over $10,000 in US dollars, ($10,225 AUD).  I looked up the price of new cars in Germany yesterday and a Peugeot 308 or a VW Golf are half the price there than we pay here in Oz.   Might be a great place to live but cost are out of control.

Printers in the US are half price from Europe.

On the other hand, out there in OZ you can get a decent sized house for less money than the $1K per square foot which is the minimum here - printer costs more in real estate rent than in actual purchase costs.

Very tempting offer. Wish HP would price match their z3200 or come close to the Canon ipf8300 price here. Looking for another 44" printer, and assumed it would be an HP z3200. May have to give that money to Canon and give the ipf8300 a try!
Title: The ipf 8300 is much less expensive than the 6300!
Post by: Jrobichaud on February 27, 2012, 07:13:46 am
I did just receive my 8300, what a printer! What pushed me over the edge was the included ink. The 6300 comes with 12 95ml ink tanks, whereas the 8300 comes with 12 330ml tanks. That means that the 8300 comes with roughly 24 extra 130ml ink tanks, @ $73 a tank, that's a little less than $1700 more ink!!!! So essentially, the cost of an 8300 is $1500 less than a 6300.  You really are paying $2300 for 12 330ml ink tanks and getting the ipf8300 for free. I don't understand how they are doing this, but don't miss it!

The OP said this ends on Feb 29... The info I saw said Mar 31. Can anyone confirm the end date?
For the 8300 - $1000. mail in rebate and $880. trade in rebate.

Thanks,

I was at the Art and Frame show in  Vegas, CanonUSA was there...There's a new model coming out 400 series
so look for 6400, 9400, 8400....May time frame.  Maybe these rebates are to move out the old stuff.

There are new printers coming but, really won't see them till the fall.  May is when I will 60 inch will be out but probably won't see any for sale or delivered until later.  But I hope to see my Beta in by May.

Yes it does end at the end of month.  If you are the states you can add ink and other essentials to this loan for no interest is what I understand.  I think you can use the 1000 rebate for the first bunch of $95 payments.  Yes you do get 12 330ml cartridges.  I have made a little over 1000 prints and finally changed my last cartridge from the original set.  T

I'm sorry, wrong conversation  :D

Although I do agree that you are getting more ink, the math doesn't always add up.  Here is how I think of it.  The extra ink is great only if it ends up on paper.  Usually with these printers, they end up dying, and when they do, think of how much ink is still inside of them.  Its not like you can use up all the ink in the lines and in the carts that you put into the printer.  Can you even sell a used cart to someone?  Even if you have a 330ml cart that you just put in and hence have lets say 300ml left, is someone really gonna give you $150 bucks for it?  I've seen people try and sell unopened cart before they had stocked up for a printer they no longer use, and I just don't think they are getting that much for even a brand new cart.

Anyway, so although you are getting $1700 worth of extra ink, when this printer does die, you will also be wasting at least $1000 worth of ink that is in the printer.  The only good way to mitigate this is to pass this printer on used to someone else, but with so many good deals, I don't see how someone would pay good money for a used printer when they are now paying for ink that will never be used in the printer when it dies.

Don't understand your logic. If you like and buy this printer, and the printer does "die" prematurely, the deal with the included ink makes even more sense, not less, because the ink was free. If you bought this printer and it die even before those ink carts ran out, if you did a few hundred prints, the printer more than paid for itself. As long as it lasts long enough to do a few hundred prints, who cares how much ink is left? You didn't pay for it. And if you take care of these printers, HP, Canon, or Epson, they are highly unlikely to "die" before you get through one set of inks.

I love my HP z3100 and was looking to get a z3200, but it's hard for me not to pick up one of these Canon ipf8300's just to play with. On their website it says the deal is good through Mar. 31st.

Oh the way I mean it is that although I do agree that it is incredible to get an 8300 for just a few hundred more than a 6300, which of course gets you way more ink, its not all usable ink.  More ink is being used in the priming of the lines, and each cart is just so much more expensive when you have to replace it.  The big hit is when you start having to buy more ink carts at $170 a pop.  You might just replace 5 or 6, and then the printer dies, and then you have to figure if its more cost effective to buy a new printer, or perhaps new print heads.  It happened to my 6100.  Had to buy a $500 print head, and hoped the other one didn't go.  And since then, only a few months ago, I've probably bought 8 or 9 carts.  So if the other head goes very soon, then I've just pumped lots of money into a printer that I can never get back if I don't get to use up what's already in there.

So all I mean to say is that although it is an amazing deal to get $1700 worth of ink or whatever the number works out to, you will never be in a position to use up all the ink at once and retire the printer.  That extra ink might only work out to $700 extra cause $1000 will be left in lots of ink carts that may be more than half full when the thing dies.

The rebate is definitely on till 3/31. What is unclear from the website is if the discounted pricing at http://www.proimagingsupplies.com/Canon-c177/ will stay the same until 3/31.

I think that your ink argument is flawed. You mention that the ink costs more on the 8300 when in fact it's just the opposite. A 130ml tank for the 6300 costs about $75 whereas the 330ml tank for the 8300 is $130, 2 and 1/2 times the ink for $55 more.  Your argument about more in in the lines to the head, you're kidding right?

I think the price I saw for 8300 ink was $160, but of course it is still much better.  But imagine this scenario.  You've just replaced 4 or 5 ink carts, and the other 6 or 7 are like 30% to 80% full.  Now your print head dies, or some other flaw actually that makes you really consider if you should pump more money into it or let it retire.  Maybe there is a new model that just came on the market with much better ink.  Now when you consider you have 5 carts that are 80 to 90% full (hence 330ml *5 * 80%=1320ml) and lets say all the others add up to roughly 40% (7 * 330mL * 40% = 924ml)  So it looks to me like this printer has 2L of ink in it.  Now if you can sell your just opened carts to someone, great, but how much will you get?  I don't think I would be buying an unsealed ink cart from anybody.  So it looks to me like this printer is dead with 2 L of ink in it.  It is just impossible to reach the end of a printer's life with using up most of the ink inside.

I'm not disagreeing that the 8300 is an amazing deal over the 6300 if you have the space for it.  But I just think that it is not realistic to say that you will get to use up all the ink from an 8300 that you get over the ink in the carts on the 6300.  And yes, from what I hear, the 8300 does take considerably more ink to prime than a 6300.

Printers dying.  Really are we going there.  I've printed at least 1100 prints so far.  I get 700 ml cartridges which is even better savings..  But I guess if your printer at some point dies which these are built very well.  Everything at some point dies but the next generation printers will have the same ink set that I know for sure.  So if you buy one printer and it dies then you will need another.  But so far these printers do take beating and keep going.  They prefer to print than stay still.  The heads will have to changed at some point.  But cost are incredible, as I said to Canon I buy a printer for 2400 dollars and every 20 minutes I can print a 2400 dollar print.

Back when we invented the pigment printing process in 1991 before inkjet it cost 1200 dollars to make the same print.

But surely inkjet is one of the best things ever to happen to photography.  The ability to create your own prints at such repeatability and perfection is amazing.  When we created the first pigment inkjet print 1994 it cost about 45.00 for the paper and the ink was still cheap.  Now paper is even cheaper and ink is still cheaper yet.  BUt the quality is still going up.  But we reaching the point of diminishing returns.  I don't see a lot more changes coming.  So enjoy this time its a great time to be a photographer.  All these advanced tools to get control, but don't get caught up in the over analyzing horse shit.  Photography is still about the five major points.  Lighting, composition, angle of view, depth of field, choosing the right lens for the job and I will add the sixth if shooting color that is COLOR COMPOSITION.  T

But kidding aside they did extend this for another month.  T

Yowza. Glad I saw this. I was close to putting THE 3RD printhead in my year-and-a-half old 7900. That would have been 1200 bucks and a lot of stress replacing it myself.

I feel totally liberated.

Of course...now I'm a slave to canon. I hope she's a better master.

I'm close to doing the 8300. Right now it's just a space issue - 3rd floor apartment. Would have to consider placing it in storage until I move to a house in May/June.
