Title: Looks Like LR4 Is Within Days Of Release
Post by: kaelaria on February 22, 2012, 04:27:15 pm
I notice that not only is the fantastic 80% off Student / Teacher Editions on right now, the discount does not apply to LR3, but it DOES specifically say it's good for LR4...and the offer expires March 2nd...looks like LR4 is due any day now and if you qualify for the discount will get it for peanuts!  PS CS5 is only $40 right now with the offer!

Hmmm... where does it "specifically say it's good for LR4"? Care to share a link to it?

I think that reference to LR4 is a typo. Some folks on another site have reported buying LR3 via that deal. I just don't see any way Adobe is going to sell LR4 at 80% off, even to students and teachers.

Same old, same old.  Everyone who knows is covered by NDA. Everyone else is guessing.  Tom Hogarty said that LR4 Beta expires at the end of March and it would not be wise if the production version wasn't out by then.  And so we wait.

Adobe has never stated there would ever be a second beta.

Speculation: there would normally be a Release Candidate, or two, shortly before final release.  But since LR4 is really a database wrapper around a new version of Camera Raw, which will, presumably, be released with CS6, I would imagine that LR4 will not be released before CS6 is ready.  That time is, obviously, getting closer, judging by the sneak previews, but whether it is 1 week, or 1 month or one quarter, only Adobe will know, and perhaps not even they.  If I was them, I would wait until the slew of new Nikon, Canon, Fuji, and other cameras that are due to be released over the next month or two were handled by ACR7, if they want to avoid a lot of negative internet vibe about a new product not working with new gear.

Where did you get that idea. LR is a completely separate stand alone application. Yes, it uses the "Camera Raw" processing pipeline, but Camera Raw isn't in LR–just the processing engine and a whole lot more code.

There has never been(to my knowledge) an RC, only betas, for a new version(of which LR4 is). There has always be an RC for dot releases of a version, which occur about every quarter or so which cover bug fixes and the like along with camera info that have recently been released. And I think Adobe knows when they'll be releasing LR4 & CS6. They just don't have to tell us until they do. ;D

Eric I did realise that...  ;) My point was that just speculating about a release date based on the expiry date of a beta didn't allow for other (possible) factors. (There doesn't appear to be a tongue-in-cheek icon I could have used.)

The SAVE80EDU is not a valid code. It was some mistake by Adobe and they are not honoring it on any product.

I too am sure that LR4 is due any day now.  I just don't know how many days we are talking about...a few days...a lot of days.  Oh, how are we to know?   ??? ??? ???

Oh, how are we to know?

That's the point, you aren't supposed to know. It's Adobe's secret until it isn't secret any more...lot's of people know, but nobody who knows is allowed to say due to NDAs.

One of the things on my bucket list is to someday have to sign a NDA. Then I will feel like I have arrived and am truly part of the "in" crowd.

Adobe discount of 50% on LR3 says "Offer ends March 5, 2012", that is the best hint we have, I think.

On Amazon UK there's LR3 on discount but... "In stock on March 8, 2012."
Do you really think they'll arrive in stock after LR4 release?  ???

My guess is that Adobe will wait as much as possibile. No x.0 has ever been stable nor polished enough. It's the same for every and each Pro software in the from every single software house. I bet on the end of the month :)

Just out of curiosity, Jeff, is there any day this month when you feel like you wouldn't be available to travel?

Nope...but that has nothing to do with the release of LR4...it's just I don't have any travel plans this month (although my wife and daughter are going to South Beach next week–again, has nothing to do with LR4).

That Amazon leak linked above corroborates my idea about the release date based on Adobe´s discount expiration on LR3.
I will have a shooting travel on mid march and would love to have the official LR4 instead of the beta on my notebook as the beta is a bit heavy and prone to crashing.

Best regards.

I am in the same boat, with a Zion trip planned for mid March. I would also like my D800 by then. Looks like I'll be disappointed twice...

Hi,

this dealer in Germany ( http://www.edv-buchversand.de/adobe/url.php?cnt=lightroom4&act=2&lcol=0&rcol=0 ) offers an 'early bird offer' for both the update and ful version of Lightroom 4. Availability is announced for the next 3-4 days.

$150 for the full version?
I bought the v3 release for 96£ knowing that it would have been cheaper upgrading to v4 for the usual price instead of buying the full v4 version at once.

Heck... it's the half of the previous price!  :-\

Hello,

I ordered the update of Lr 4 for the 'special early bird price' and received the confirmation that the update will be shipped at 8th of March, which will be in 3 days.

So, Chris, I hope you are almost ready to publish, too  ;D !

So it seems. If you're not living in Germany, Austria or Swiss you have to contact them and ask about shipping costs.

Ciao, Walter

What do you mean "shipping costs"? Can't you just download the trial and buy online (from Adobe) a serial number?

The early bird price linked above seems to be related to a boxed version of Lightroom.
The discounted Lr3 I bought from Amazon was boxed only.

Hello,

yes, it will be the retail boxed version.

I would drop them a few lines asking for the shipping costs. But you should hurry up becasue I was told that Adobe will announce Lr 4 tomorrow officially. So I bet the early bird price will be removed tomorrow.

I have to wonder why anyone would even think of scheduling a vacation before the new Nikon is shipped and LR4 is released. How could one possibly enjoy a vacation or even attempt to make good photos without both of these new products?

I recently happened to see a copy of Neil Leifer's iconic image of Muhammad Ali glowering over Sonny Liston, and I couldn't help but think how much better it could have been if it had been shot with a D800 and processed with LR4.

SO it seems . Will be launched on the professional imaging show running from 11-13 march (www.professionalimaging.nl). Upgrade price is EUR 129. anyhow just ordered an extra license LR3 via Amazon. Think together will be significantly cheaper.

Wow, and look what I found for upgrading! A screen that says $79 and $99...

A lot of people have been confused on how to properly upgrade and install Adobe Lightroom 4.

It is very straight forward, but has one tricky step that A LOT of people are missing...

Check out this great 60 second video tutorial on how properly execute an install and upgrade from any previous versions of Lightroom: Installing and Upgrading LR in 60 Seconds or less. (http://tinyurl.com/8ygy5kv)

So, is your name Eduardo Angel?

macuser88 isn't really very descriptive and Mike asks LuLa users to use a real name. That way we can tell when somebody comes to this forum to do self promotion...

Not for nothing, but some people take these sort of things pretty seriously. Trying to promote your own web site is one thing but doing so under the guise of trying to help people is another. You do realize there are lots of other LR4 info out there, right (including offered from this web site). BTW, I watched your video...and yes, you absolutely DO need to install Lightroom as an admit user (there's no might involved). Nothing really useful that I saw...just saying. (also noticed you are rather new here...might want to make at least a few posts in the forums that DON'T have links to your stuff–you know, become a regular member before trying to do self-promotion).
