The small image does no favors. When I clicked on it I liked it better, but I feel this image would take to bw very well.

Thanks for those comments guys. Here is a version fairly simply converted to mono in Silver Efex Pro2 and cropped a wee bit.

....by the way, how would I post a photograph in a thread other than by using the "Attach" tag that seems to automatically insert a small version that then has to be clicked to view at a reasonable size?

I really like the tones of the color version but now that I see the BW version I agree it does look better.Lovely image

B&W for me works nicely. The conversion actually shows there is detail in what appeared to be a featurless sky. I think you might want to play with slighly warm/sepia toning for b&w, to further underscore that old-times feeling. For that look, you also might try some stronger vignetting.
The only thing I disagree with in the b&w version is cropping. You lost the bottom part which contained strong leading lines, accentuationg the sense of perspective.

I'm with Slobodan on this. I like the original cropping but in B&W, but I also would like to see a sepia toning, which would preserve some of the lovely mood of the color version.

Personally, I'd stick with the color version (which is about as B&W as color can get), primarily for the red and green lights -- I hate to lose that element. I'd probably tone down the brown of the foreground platforms, and I like the enhanced detail in the clouds which should be possible in a color version.

I don't think the image should be sepia toned at all to be honest. It will just turn it into a cliche for the sake of doing it. I also don't really think vignetting will work. The building on the left, the left bottom corner and the elements on the right are the darkest parts of the photo. Vignetting will only darken them further and the photo will look out of balance. The sky looks good as is also and I don't think vignetting will benefit it. The subtle tones work really well, where there is just enough detail in the sky.

I am glad you missed out the modern walkway over the rails. The image looks timeless, almost if it could have been taken any time in the last four or five decades. As to a vignette then there isn't an obvious focal point that is centralised so it wouldn't have worked. Though there is a lot in the image it doesn't looked cluttered. Nice work.

I'm for somewhere between color and b&w. I'd desaturate most of the color, but leave just a hint behind.

First of all, I love the photo, very evocative. I prefer the colour version, mainly because of the almost sepia-esque tone which adds to the timeless quality of it. However, I would like to see it with a bit of detail brought out in the sky as it is in the mono version.
